AWOC Local Groups
Our local groups enable people ageing without children to come together for informal peer support and to share experiences. Some groups also provide access to relevant information (invited speakers, newsletters, etc.) and/or work with other local organisations to ensure that the needs of people ageing without children are represented and included in policy, planning and services for older people.
AWOC local groups follow simple principles for how they operate laid down in a partnership agreement signed with the national charity. For example, they must agree to be open to everyone in their area that meets our definition of being “AWOC” and not restricted to, say, people who have never had children or have specific other characteristics like a particular sex, age, ethnicity or religion. Each local groups is legally independent of us and controls its own agenda and activities within the framework provided by the partnership agreement.
There are AWOC local groups in several parts of the UK, and we are keen to encourage more to start. Our current local groups are listed below, with their contact details and activities. If you would like to explore forming a new group or discover if one is planned close to you, please contact us through our Facebook group or website contact form.
If you are from an organisation in the statutory, voluntary or private sector wanting to set up an AWOC group, please download our guide for organisations here – AWWOC Running Groups Guide – and then contact us.
